Where's That Baby?

As the crowd of people at the craft sale on Saturday moved around the high school gymnasium, I looked up, and there, standing in front of my table, was my nephew's wife.

"What," I said. "Are you doing here? And why aren't you in the hospital having that baby?!"

"I wish I was!" she said.

My great-nephew is due to arrive any day now. My niece-in-law's last day of work was on Friday. Eli Roy's predicted arrival is Thursday, April 13.

"I hope he comes this week," Amy said to me. "I want to show him off at Easter! Otherwise, everybody won't get together again until Thanksgiving!"

Our whole family is planning to get together for Easter dinner next Sunday.

Last night after I got home from the craft sale, I called my sister, and then between the conversation with her and conversation with my husband afterwards, we came up with a brilliant idea.

If Amy is in the hospital on Easter -- why can't we just delay Easter dinner by a week?

I liked the plan so well, I called my nephew. He liked the idea, too.

So, if it does end up that Eli Roy does not arrive until next weekend, we will be eating Easter dinner a week later.

Personally, I think it's a pretty good solution. That way, Eli's Grandma won't have to worry about having everyone at the house when she'd rather be spending time saying "hello" to her new grandson -- and we'll all get to see the baby!

As for the craft sale, it went quite well. Lots of people. And I sold 11 books! Three "Christmas in Dairyland" -- six "Give Me a Home Where the Dairy Cows Roam" and two "Cream of the Crop." Once again, 30-some people signed up for the book drawing, and about half of them indicated they would like to be on my mailing list.

I also got flyers from the organizers of three more craft sales -- one at the end of May. One in July. And one in August. The craft sale in May is a two-day affair for the town's centennial celebration (Fall Creek, Wisconsin). The craft sale in July is also a two-day affair during the fair (Gilmanton, Wisconsin). And the craft sale in August, a three-day event, is just down the road 20 minutes for the Pickle Fest (Boyceville, Wisconsin). My summer calendar is starting to fill up. . .

Pretty In Purple

After the incident with Isabelle getting out during the blizzard of March 13 when she wasn't wearing a halter because she had broken it, I decided I'd better buy a new halter for her.

I bought a new halter for her a few weeks ago, but for one reason and another, I had not tried it on her yet. I really haven't had to have a halter on her because she loves to be brushed, so I don't need to clip a lead to her halter while I am brushing her. And I haven't needed her to stand still for any other reason. So the halter remained in the house, hanging on the coat closet.

This morning I decided I'd better make an appointment with the vet so she can get her first round of vaccinations in so she can then get her second round of vaccinations, especially West Nile Virus, by the time she needs to have her immunity built up. The vets like to give the West Nile Virus in plenty of time for mosquito season so the horses have the strongest immunity while the mosquitoes are the worst.

The vet is coming out Monday morning.

When I was feeding the horses this morning, it dawned on me that I'd better make sure Isabelle's new halter fits so I can hold onto her while the vet is here.

I am happy to say that Isabelle's new halter fits very well.

Don't ask me why I bought a purple halter. No particular reason. Maybe only because I thought it might be fun for her to have a purple halter!

Craft Sale -- I am taking my books to another craft sale tomorrow. It will be the last one for the spring season. My next craft sale will be in June. I have two booked for June. I will book another one in July. Or maybe two. And I'm planning to do a number of others throughout the rest of the summer and in the fall.

Windy -- It is very windy again today -- 15 to 25 mph out of the north/northwest. If it stays windy this spring, the hummingbirds will be late! It has happened in other years. When it has been extremely windy, the hummingbirds have not arrived here until the middle or the end of May. I suppose, seeing as they are so tiny, it is difficult for them to make headway when there's a strong wind!

Clothes -- I am drying clothes outside for the first time this year! It is windy enough and sunny enough so the clothes will dry. It's not very warm today, though. Only in the 40's. When it gets to this time of year, it is always difficult to get clothes dry. If I hang them in the basement -- because the furnace is not on very much -- it takes the clothes a week to dry. Might not seem like too big a deal. But it sure is nice to get finished with a load of laundry in one day. . .
